Magnussen: Hard to be 'satisified' despite points in US Grand Prix

Kevin Magnussen was left "not fully satisfied" in the United States Grand Prix despite a first Formula 1 points finish in eight races.

Magnussen was the sole driver in the field to attempt a one-stop strategy - pitting only during a Safety Car period and switching from the Hard to Medium Pirelli tyres.

He was eighth going onto the 56th and final lap, with a charging Sebastian Vettel closing him down.

Vettel slipped by at the penultimate turn to nab eighth with Magnussen in the points with ninth for the first time since the Austrian GP in July.

However, hours after the race he was promoted to eighth after Fernando Alonso was hit by his 30s time penalty after Haas put in a protest against the Alpine.

Despite the points finish, Magnussen was left feeling bitter.

Magnussen not satisfied

"It's hard when you get overtaken on the last lap to be fully satisfied," Magnussen told media including RacingNews365.com.

"But at the end of the day, I'd say the team did a great job; we pulled off a one stop strategy which is just great work.

"We couldn't have done that without the guidance and preparation that the team provided, so I'm really proud of them.

"We got a bit of luck back after getting boxed in at Turn 1 and was in a decent position and just got stopped by the Ferrari [of spun pole-sitter Carlos Sainz Jr] and we lost out, so I'm happy to at least get some of that fortune back."

Magnussen also commented on the fact that Sergio Perez was not given the black and orange flag for a flapping front wing end-plate like he has multiple times in 2022 - describing it as "bullsh*t."
