Magnussen reveals where Hulkenberg has upper hand at Haas

Kevin Magnussen has admitted that teammate Nico Hulkenberg has been able to navigate Haas’ issues more efficiently this year.

Haas has showcased strong one-lap pace on occasion this season, with Magnussen ending qualifying in Miami in fourth place on the grid.

However, Haas’ biggest struggle has come on race day as its tyre degradation has caused both of its drivers to slip back in the order rapidly.

After the first 14 races of the year, Haas currently sits eighth in the Constructors’ Championship, tallying 11 points - the majority of which have been scored by Hulkenberg.

Despite returning to the grid after two years on the sidelines, Hulkenberg has been up to speed at his new team and has appeared more comfortable at the wheel than Magnussen.

Magnussen hails Hulkenberg experience

The German was picked to replace compatriot Mick Schumacher, with Haas valuing experience over youth - an important trait Magnussen has highlighted amid Haas’ ongoing problems.

“It’s good to have someone with that much experience when you're trying to develop a car," Magnussen told media including RacingNews365.

"When you have an issue and you need a new direction, it’s good to have all this experience in the team.

"In terms of the pace, it's not like I have this problem like: 'I just can't drive this car.'

“On Sunday, it's always fine. It's just [over that] one lap [in qualifying], sometimes I struggle to get it out [of the car].

"I have had good qualifyings this year. I qualified P4 in Miami so it's not like I can't do it ever.

"But he seems to be able to drive around the issue a little more often, but I think I'm turning it around."
