Norris homework behind latest standout result

Lando Norris has revealed that he worked on perfecting his race starts ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix which helped him secure second place in Brazil.

Norris endured a difficult qualifying session on Saturday and lined up in sixth place for the start of the main race.

A strong launch off the line saw him catapult into second place with both Aston Martins ahead of him struggling, while a gap at the front was created after Charles Leclerc crashed on the formation lap.

A red flag was called following a collision at Turn 1 between Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen and, at the restart, Norris lined up in second place - a position he held to the chequered flag.

“It was very good,” Norris said of his race. “It couldn't have gone much better, to be honest.

“We had good pace, similar to Saturday which is the main thing and a much better start in the beginning to get from sixth to second which was a nice surprise.

“My start yesterday was also good so I tried to work on it and it got better but then the second start, I was just a little bit aggressive on it.

“Still, I'm so happy P2 is as good as we can get nowadays and for the time being but very happy.”

'Verstappen had an answer to everything'

Norris' second-place result marks his seventh podium of the campaign and his fifth top-three finish in the last seven races.

The McLaren driver attacked Max Verstappen for the lead early on in the race but couldn't move ahead of the Dutchman, forcing him to settle in behind the Red Bull driver.

His attempts to reel in the three-time World Champion later in the race faltered as Red Bull took its 19th win of the season.

“There's little bits where the tyres come back to you a little bit and then you can push on them,” Norris said when asked if there were times he thought he could challenge Verstappen.

“But Max always seems to have an answer to everything which is a shame but fair play to him, he drove a good race.

“It was tough with the wind conditions and everything but P2 is a good result.”
